I have gotten the news listings to work, and display on the home page of each fellowship (and the webmasters page).
To post a news item, write a new post (not a “page”), and be sure to put it into the correct category (e.g. “Crossroads News”). Then it will appear on the appropriate page.
If you want the news items to appear on other pages in your fellowship section you need to do two things: (1) set the page template for that page to “Fellowship Home Page” and (2) under custom fields for that page add a field for news-cat set to the correct category ID for the appropriate news category. (You can look at the settings on your fellowship home page to see how it should look.)
I still want to improve the appearance and function of this feature, but it works and you can use it!
