The history of the Chinese for Christ Berkeley Church can be traced back to 1961, when some graduate students from Taiwan started holding Bible studies in the apartment on Center Street in Berkeley. In 1964 the meetings were moved to a building which was purchased on The Alameda in Berkeley for use of the CFC Student Center. During these years first Rev. Moses Yu and then Mr. Yih-Ling Liu lead the student center. Regular Sunday services were held during these years, and CFC was on its way to growing from a student fellowship into a church.
By October 1973 the church had grown to about 70 members and needed a larger facility. Members began to pray and give towards a new location, and in April 1974 the present property at 2715 Prince Street was purchased. In the same year the first deacons were elected to serve the church.
Over the next 10 years the church continued to grow and expand its ministry. In 1980 some members living near Hayward started the CFC Hayward church. The English ministry was started in 1985.
The church now has both an English and a Mandarin service on Sundays, as well as numerous fellowship groups in both the English and Chinese ministries. The current English pastor, Rev. Kenneth P. Carlson , came to CFC in April 1994.
