During my junior year in High School, I began to ponder the meaning of life. It had always meant being happy, successful, and living my life to the fullest through doing activities. I wasn’t facing reality. When I heard about people who died young, or when I almost died crossing a street, life begins to seem short, perhaps shorter than I would like. What if I died tomorrow, or later, at a time when I had not pursued my happiness or obtained an undergraduate degree? Where would I end up? All the things that I worked for, such as grades, would be useless. At that time, this feeling of uncertainty and hopelessness leads me to consider committing suicide…
This year we will again use an advent wreath to help us focus on Christ’s birth in the weeks leading up to Christmas. For more information on the origin and significance of Advent, see Pastor Ken’s article.

The summer baptism is coming up on July 13. Baptism classes will begin in June.
Lent this year will begin next week. This is an important time to reflect on Christ’s death and resurrection in order to prepare our hearts for Easter. For more information about the practice of lent, see Pastor Ken’s article What is Lent?

Christian Beliefs: Understanding the Core Beliefs of the Christian Faith

What are the really essential beliefs in the Christian faith? When you are studying a particular Bible passage, how do you fit it in with the teaching of the Bible as a whole? How do you explain things like the Trinity, predestination, angels and demons, or the end times? In this course we will survey the core Christian beliefs and provide a framework for understanding the teaching of the Bible as a whole.
The Story of Israel: An Introduction to OT History
Teaching Team: Quen Cheng, Katherine Fang, Mike Leong, Cindy Tam
This class is a survey of the Old Testament historical period. We will cover the overall history of Israel in the Old Testament period and touch on parallel events in the world, geography and the reliability of our sources in the process. This class aims to increase your understanding of and appreciation for the Old Testament, as well as provide a deeper background for reading the New Testament.
